Metals

Ron the Jeweler designs and creates the jewelry he designs in gold and platinum. It is important that you understand that all gold and all platinum are not alike. Whereas, 8 out of 10 women have a reaction to the nickel content of metal it will be very important that you selected the correct metal for your piercing.

Yellow Gold

The standard in the body piercing jewelry industry is to use nickel free gold, that is allowed to have 5% nickel by law or standard 14KT gold which has 43% nickel content.  Ron the Jeweler offers the only true hypoallergenic yellow gold in the body piercing jewelry industry. The reason that this metal is hypoallergenic is that we do not use nickel to alloy down the gold from 24KT to 14KT.  In addition many people have a reaction to the copper of yellow gold. This is the reaction that causes the skin under a ring or other types of jewelry to turn green or black. This is a reaction between the body's PH and the copper. Ron the Jeweler, by a special process, has eliminated this reaction.

White gold

White gold in its self is not hypoallergenic. The method used to make white gold is one the start with pure gold and higher nickel content is added, which makes a white metal. White gold was invented during World War 2 when the Federal Government used all the platinum in the country for the war effort leaving the jewelers without a white metal for jewelry. Even through the white gold is not hypoallergenic Ron the Jeweler has developed a process that reduces the direct contact of the nickel with the body.

Platinum

Platinum is the most hypoallergenic material you can use in your body. This metal in the purest state does not have eliminates that a body could react to. Note it is important that you understand that many manufactures of body jewelry add nickel to the platinum to reduce the cost of producing the item and as a result the item is not hypoallergenic. Only Ron the jeweler uses a mix of 98% platinum and 2% of a non reactive alloy to produce the platinum used to make the jewelry designed by Ron the Jeweler.

Surgical Steel

There are many myths regarding the use of surgical steel for body piercing jewelry. Surgical steel has not been used by the medical industry since the 70's due to the number of people who reacted to the metal. The use of surgical steel in body piercing has been band in all of Europe due to the number of people who react to the metal.  Dermatologists have studied the effects of using surgical steel for body piercing and find that 60% of all the problems people experience with a new or existing piercing are the result of surgical steel.
